Our little learning community here has been meeting monthly for six years. Six years!
We have been under the spell of our first leader Jane VanGalen for all these years! The rest of our community includes the following wonderful people: Becca Price, Sarita Shukla, Mark Chen, Gavin Doyle, Susan McNabb, Ko Niitsu, Chris Lott, Marisa Petrich, Chelsea Nesvig, and Todd Conaway. Most recently we have added David S Goldstein, Deborah A Hathaway, and hopefully,Yusuf Pisan.
This web space holds our digital memories and activities and represents some of the things we have learned along the way. It is also a great resource for any educator, anywhere. Yay for learning communities! As we find the end of one academic year we wonder about the next.
Summer Plans
This summer we will still hold monthly meetings at 9 am on the second Friday of the month. They will be less structured. For the summer we will cancel our second “debriefing” meetings usually held on the third Friday.
We will be working on sending our a monthly newsletter. Perhaps it will find itself in front of other faculty who may learn something and/or wish to participate in our community at some point. The goal is to attract some attention to the website and our work and maybe get some more subscribers to the site.
Todd’s plans look like this.

Various Upgrades and Improvements
We added some RSS feeds to the sidebar of this website. See it there on the right of this page? We recently included the remarkable work Chris Lott has been doing with faculty at the Tacoma campus and feeds from Faculty Focus, Open Pedagogy Podcasts, and some Educause articles.
For the 23/24 school year we will be scheduling monthly Faculty led conversations around teaching and learning. These will be in addition to our existing monthly meetings. We plan on continuing some of our “epiphanies” work with both Bothell faculty and the faculty at other institutions.
We will be meeting with another learning community that focuses on open pedagogy from the University of Windsor in the fall. How exciting! We are not yet sure of the structure of the meeting, but just connecting with another community is a great step forward!
We added two new members to the group! We are up to about 12.
Many of us attended the 2022 Connected Learning Conference!
This year we heard from a number of guests in our “Epiphanies from the Field” campfire meetings. A million thanks for our guests that included:
Next year, along with the University of Windsor we are likely to have the wonderful Lisa Lane as guests.
